Dilijan the small Switzerland of Armenia
Dilijan is a resort town with mild climate, fresh air in the northeast of Yerevan. Amazing surroundings, hills, nature and forests people called it "Armenian Switzerland", due to the densely forested valleys and mountains with alpine meadows around. It is an excellent center for walking.
I got there by mini bus, from the Medical University (Pjhishkakan Hamalsaran) on the corner of Abovyan and Koriun to the upper Avtokayaran. From there you can take a marshrutni headed to Ijevan that will stop in Dilijan on the way.
Walking in Dilijan is quite easy. The tourist information office also has a few bicycles for rent if you'd like to go a bit further. If you need to get to some of the regional monasteries, your best bet is negotiating a package deal with the taxis. You can have to tourist information office help you translate and negotiate, as most of the drivers will not speak English. If a driver tries to change the price on you, absolutely refuse, and take the matter to the police if necessary.
In Dilijan I have visited Haghartsin Monastery, Goshavank Monastery, Jukhtak Vank Monastery, and Parz Lake.
Where to acommodate : "Here is a short story of something which happened my trip".
Been advised by locals at some B&B located nearby the bus station, name of acommodation Dili Villa B&B, where I made my worst deal in life ever.
The place looked ok, though it smelled bad, looked old and dirty, being a solo traveler didnt care much, but I was wrong, because I Awoke with bites all over neck/shoulder/chest, same side that I sleep on. They where bed bugs ! ) They are very itchy and very painful. We advised the owners so they could contact an exterminator, and I made my step into a better place, which was really great. Named ( Daravand B&B, the owner spoke excellent English, and the host family was very warm and welcomming.
I felt very sad when I knew I had to leave Dilijan, to leave that wonderful place, the air, the nature, and since then I promissed myself that yes this is a place I would really want to visit again
